SMS while driving more dangerous than alcohol

A British study done by the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) for the British Royal Automobile Club Foundation indicates it's more dangerous to send text messages while driving even when compared to drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Research carried out on young drivers (aged 17-24) using a simulator found that reaction time slowed by 35% when they were writing or reading text messages while driving. In comparison, reaction time deteriorated by 21% for those under the influence of cannabis, and by 12% at the legal alcohol limit.

Brits spend 14 years of life watching TV

Britons will spend 14 years of their life in front of the TV and don't care that much what they are watching, according to a survey on Friday. Research for Virgin Media found that 29 percent of Brits spend 20 hours a week watching TV with 71 percent saying they find themselves viewing programmes for the sake of it.
The survey also concluded that 13 percent of people could not bear to miss their favourite show. In total, that means spending 14 years watching TV based on an average lifetime of 78 years. And if people aren't watching the box then they are talking about it.

World's smallest SLR camera

Japan's Matsushita said it would launch the world's smallest digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, targeting female users who want a high-performance machine that does not weigh too much. SLR cameras, high-end models with interchangeable lenses, are the fastest growing and most lucrative segment of the digital camera market. But some compact camera users are reluctant to move up to SLR models because they are bulkier and heavier.
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd, which changes its name to Panasonic on October 1, offers the Lumix brand digital cameras. Its new Lumix model, DMC-G1, is 27 percent smaller than its existing DMC-L10 SLR camera, and weighs 385 grams -- slightly more than a regular can of beer.
The new machine will go on sale in Japan on October 31. Matsushita it expected a package of the camera body and a lens unit to sell for 90,000 yen ($839.5).

Welcome to my party - now pay up!

Think twice before accepting an invitation to a party. That's the lesson Tonya Bowman, 39, learned recently after a birthday bash for a newfound acquaintance at a pricey sushi restaurant. While Bowman ordered economically -- rice, miso soup and tea -- everyone else acted as if money were no object.
"When the bill came," Bowman says, the birthday girl "smiled and made a big production by way of a toast, saying, 'Thank you all so much for my lovely birthday dinner. I really do appreciate it. You guys are great. Here's to you!' Then she just sat there, waiting for us to decide how to split the bill."
The bill for the birthday girl and her seven "guests" came to a whopping $3,450, which someone suggested splitting evenly. That worked out to $500 per person, plus tip.

Google launched new open source browser - Google Chrome

Why Google built a browser? because they like to see Mozilla and Microsoft hug each other and cry :)

1. Every tab you're using is run independently in the browser, so if one app crashes it won't take anything else down.

2. Clicking the End process button displays an 'Aw, Snap!' message in all associated tabs. So CUTE!

3. You can drag tabs out of the browser to create new windows, gather multiple tabs into one window or arrange your tabs however you wish.

4. Don't want pages you visit to show up in your web history? Choose incognito mode for private browsing.

5. Google Chrome warns you if you're about to visit a suspected phishing, malware or otherwise unsafe website.

6. No intrusive download manager; you see your download's status at the bottom of your current window.

7. Google Chrome uses V8, a more powerful JavaScript engine, to power the next generation of web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers.
