95 Year-old Auntie to Become World's Oldest College Graduate

Nola Ochs is a student at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Like many students, she looks forward to graduating and receiving her degree on May 12. But when she does, Ochs, at age ninety-five, will become what many believe is the world's oldest person to receive a college degree. The current record, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, belongs to Mozelle Richardson, who was awarded a degree in journalism at the age of 90 in 2004.

Hey Kids! Stop using Wi-fi Laptop

Computers with wireless internet should not be placed on children's laps, says the head of the government's committee on mobile phone safety research.
Professor Lawrie Challis, retired professor of physics at the University of Nottingham, says children should keep a safe distance from the embedded antennas.
"However, if you put a laptop straight on your lap and are using wi-fi, you could be around two centimetres from the transmitter, and receiving comparable exposure to that from a mobile phone."
Prof Challis added that children are much more sensitive than adults to dangers such as pollutants like lead and UV radiation.
"So if there should be a problem with mobiles, then it may be a bigger problem for children.
"Since we advise that children should be discouraged from using mobile phones, we should also discourage children from placing their laptop on their lap when they are using wi-fi.

Difference between Chinese and English university maths tests

A glance at the two questions reveals how much more advanced is the maths teaching in China, where children learn the subject up to the age of 18, The UK's Royal Society of Chemistry says.
Science undergraduates in England are likely not to have studied maths beyond GCSE level at the age of 16, it says.
It has sounded a warning about Britain's future economic prospects which it claims are threatened by competition from scientists in China.

Yahoo Launches FREE Lyrics Site

Yahoo! Music on Tuesday is launching the first legitimate repository for song lyrics thanks to a licensing deal with Gracenote, the company behind CDDB. Lyrics for 400,000 songs from the five major record labels and more will initially be available.
While lyrics have long been available on the Web, with some sites boasting libraries even larger than Yahoo's, this is the first official effort, which required deals with nearly 100 music publishers. Current illegitimate lyric sites also contain many errors, and tend to make money through spyware and other questionable advertising methods.
Gracenote has been working to build its lyric library for more than two years, and the deal with Yahoo is the first time it is being made available to consumers free of charge. BMG, EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner have all opened their catalogs to Gracenote, along with dozens of independent music publishers.
Yahoo has built a Lyric Search for the new offering, which will pull up songs based on names or matching phrases. Lyrics will also be integrated into Yahoo! Music Artist Pages, as well as the company's Web and Audio searches.

PenIs Stuck in Printer

It seems that an employee had difficulty with a printer, and it jammed. Subsequently, he tried to take care of the problem by using his pen. He managed to get it stuck inside the printer, and asked tech support what to do. They said to put a "Do Not Use" note on the printer, and they would fix it later. It seems this person has a bit bigger problem than you would think!

Shane Bernier is a courageous seven-year-old boy from Lancaster, Ontario who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was only five. On June 6th, 2006 Shane and his family received some unfortunate news: Shane experienced a relapse after completing 108 of 130 weeks of treatment.
However, despite the bad news, Shane has managed to keep a positive outlook on his situation and has made a heart-warming wish... He hasn’t asked for money or toys or anything of the sort. Instead, his birthday is on May 30th and he would like to break the world record for the most birthday cards ever received. His goal is 350 million cards. With every card, Shane’s courage grows. Something as simple as sending a birthday card could be enough to help Shane find peace and joy in his current circumstances.
Please take the time to send a card to Shane and make his dream become a reality. Share his story with your friends, family and co-workers.
If you’d like to send a card to Shane, the postal address can be found at http://shaneswish.com.

Get Vista-like Start Menu for XP

Just like in Vista, the power button expands when you click on the arrow in the bottom-right corner to reveal all of your shutdown/restart/standby choices. However, the search bar is not working and the developer says that he does have plans to make that work.
This Vista-like Start menu is available as a stand-alone program, there is no installation required. The best part is that you can play with this Vista-like Start Menu by simply downloading the files (265KB), extracting them, and running the program! One thing that you should note is that after running the program you won’t be indicated in any way that the program is running and it won't work if you're using classic start menu.
